If you are an older carer or know of someone over 60 caring for their son or daughter who has a disability, then CSI may be able to help.
Community Support Inc. has recently received funding to run a new program called the Respite for Older Carers Program.
Specific Eligibility Criteria:
Elderly parent carers aged 60 or over who are receiving carer's allowance and caring for their son or daughter aged 25 years and over, who is receiving the disability support pension;
Elderly indigenous parent carers aged 50 years and over, who are receiving carer's allowance and caring for their son or daughter aged 25 years and over, who is receiving the disability support pension;
Elderly indigenous kinship carers aged 50 years and over, who are receiving carer's allowance and caring for a person under kinship arrangements, who is aged 25 years and over and receiving a disability support pension. In applying for the definition of kinship, being care provided to a young person to an adult, it should be ensured that the carer is older than the care recipient.
Services can be provided in the northern and western suburbs of Adelaide. Respite includes in-home and flexible respite. Respite can be for a few hours, a day, overnight or longer.
The program is able to provide for new and additional respite. Consumers will be limited to up to the equivalent of 24 hours per month, per Consumer.
CSI is also interested in liaising with carers, key stakeholders (such as local government), General Practitioners and Social Workers, to identify gaps in current service provision.
To discuss further, please contact the Respite Service Coordinator at CSI on (08) 8112 8000.
