Becoming a Support Worker

Community Support Incorporated (CSI) recruits self-employed Support Workers across South Australia, to provide services to people with a disability to assist them to maintain their independence at home and in the community.

Community Support Incorporated also hires high calibre professional employees to provide both basic and complex support services.

CSI can offer Support Workers flexible work hours, a variety of work and a real opportunity to make a difference. There are no costs or fees associated with becoming a self-employed Support Worker or casual employed Support Worker with CSI.

If working for yourself appeals to you, or you would like to become a casual employee in an area where there is a high demand for quality support workers, CSI may be able to assist.

Essential requirements for self-employed Support Workers

CSI Support Workers are self-employed and are therefore responsible for obtaining an Australian Business Number (ABN) from the Australian Taxation Office, maintaining records of income and expenses incurred and arranging insurance. CSI can assist with these, including accessing a tailored insurance scheme and withholding tax on request.

Support Workers must meet certain requirements to ensure that consumers receive quality services. Prior to becoming a CSI Approved Support Worker, you will need to attend an interview, agree to a National Criminal History Record check and reference checks. You will also need to produce evidence of a current driver's licence, vehicle roadworthiness check and a registered vehicle.

It is essential that Support Workers have a genuine interest in working with people with a disability. It is desirable that they have either recognised training or practical experience in supporting people with the activities of daily living.
