SERIOUS INCIDENT RESPONSE SCHEME AGED CARE HOME CARE PART 1

Thank you all for your continued support with your submission of incident forms and AWACCS for our NDIS Clients. As you are aware, with NDIS we have an obligation to report certain incidents to the NDIS Commission.

Similarly, commencing on the 1 December 2022 in line with new legislation announced by the Federal Government, we are now required to report certain incidents to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission for clients who are on Aged Care Home Care Packages. What this means for you is to continue to report incidents and AWACCs but be aware of the following reportable incidents for your Aged Care Home Care Clients.

The following incidents will be required to be reported to the Commission:

  • Unreasonable use of force
  • Unlawful sexual contact or inappropriate sexual conduct
  • Psychological or emotional abuse
  • Unexplained absence from care
  • Stealing or financial coercion by a staff member
  • Neglect
  • Inappropriate use of restrictive practices
  • Unexpected death

Incidents will be classified as either a Priority 1 or a Priority 2 incident. All Priority 1 incidents must be reported to the Commission within 24 hours and Priority two within 30 days of the incident occurring. However, all incidents must be reported to CSI as soon as they occur.

Over the following couple of months, we will provide examples of the above incidents in our staff newsletter and provide you with further education to enable you to understand the types of incidents which will require to be reported.
